Family Force 5 is a band difficult to describe. From the bands distinctive sound to the band members' bizarre names and styles of dress, this is simply not a band like any other. The band claims the genre of crunk; however that term in itself may not fully describe their complete sound. The band does exhibit some rap qualities but they also throw in some sounds from older bands. Think White Stripes and Rage Against the Machine meets modern rap, and you will probably get a better picture of the band's overall sound.

In 1995 Jacob, Joshua and Solomon Olds released a pop album under the name The Brothers. And in 2004 two friends, Nathan Currin and Derek Mount, joined the band and Family Force 5 was born. In 2006 the band released their first album "Business Up Front/Party in the Back" and in 2007 the band added three new songs and then released "Business Up Front Party in the Back (Diamond Edition)."

After spending only a few moments listening to the band you begin to realize that this band is everything but serious. The members of Family Force 5 are known by names such as SOUL GLOW ACTIVATUR, CHAP STIQUE, and NADADDY. Their single, "Kountry Gentleman", speaks of growing up in the south, while many of their songs such as "Lose Urself", and "Earthquake" may be lacking in substance lyrically, the catchy melodies will keep you on your feet. The music video for their song "Love Addict" is a good demonstration of their extreme, eccentric personalities. The lead singer can often be found at shows performing in his giant plastic Hulk hands, and a fan shouldn't be surprised if while attending the show, they found the guitarist dressed as a giant pink gorilla.

Overall, this band was created to entertain and they fill that job completely. Any show of theirs would be a guaranteed great performance. Make an attempt to catch them in concert, or if you are looking for a less involved way to experience Family Force 5, you can hear them at www.purevolume.com/familyforce5 or check out their MySpace at MySpace.com/familyforce5. •
