Everyone has a favorite story that we are just dying to tell to as many people as we can. Many times, though, the opportunity is rare. Ever since I became the "Journal's" Sports Editor last year, I've been waiting for this opportunity. My favorite story is about my favorite sports icon of all time: the great Roger Federer.
A small but talented group of Western track and field athletes went to Seattle last weekend, Friday (Jan. 29) and Saturday (Jan. 30), for the University of Washington Invite. This group proved that Western will be a competitive force in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) and national competitions.
It was one of those rare moments, where in the face of a daunting task I was able to remain calm and collected as I stood waiting for the gun to go off. These past two weeks since my horrible performance at the UW Open, I have relearned how to have fun with running again and enjoy the thrill of racing.
Coach Jeremiah Robbins knew this year would be a challenge for his team as last year's starting rotation had five seniors. It did not help that senior pitcher Blake Keitzman was drafted by the Seattle Mariners. Furthermore, freshman starter Thomas McCarthy decided to transfer schools.
