Students form Ugandan People's Alliance club as a local response to worldwide movement

In an effort to raise awareness about the brutal struggle occurring within and around the nation of Uganda, Western students Ryan Davis and Jordan Stewart have formed a new club at Western known as the Ugandan People's Alliance. Stewart explained how she and Davis had their passion for the Ugandan people renewed by both the Invisible Children movement and the worldwide event known as The Rescue.

Financial Information Committee projects optimism despite economic tightening in many major Oregon universities

In an open public meeting on Friday, April 24, the administration's Financial Information Committee discussed the university's financial position for the 2008-09 period, as well as projections for 2009-10. The committee, which includes faculty, staff, students and community members, was created to communicate financial information to Western's constituencies and advise the university president on financial opportunities and challenges.

Young and old, thick and thin, fit and not--all shapes and sizes filled Western's campus and surrounding area Saturday to compete in the 3rd annual triathlon, cosponsored by Campus Recreation and the Health and PE department. 27 teams and over 200 participants strapped on swimwear, pumped up bike tires and laced up their running shoes to compete in the day's events.

Thanks to online advertising--email, the Western Alumni Web site and the Alumni Association's monthly E-News--Western's Alumni Association has offered several free events to alumni throughout the year, the most recent being a Portland Trail Blazers game, complete with a hot dog dinner.
