New e-mail system requires student participation, anticipates better communication

Winter term appears to be a season for change at Western, with one aspect of improvement being a new student e-mail system. The shift away from all-student e-mails, which became effective as of Jan. 5, 2009, is aimed at encouraging Western students to check and maintain their e-mail accounts to a greater degree.

Religious groups around campus unite to model community, love

In conjunction with the Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) events being held around campus this week, several religious groups will participate in Western's first-ever interfaith worship service in the plaza tonight at 5:30 p.m. Lauren Smith, Advisor for Multicultural Student Services and Programs, explained the need to incorporate this event into the week's line-up, citing MLK's commitment to people across all walks of life.

Providing a place for prayer

Last fall, Faisal Almenaiya, President of Saudi Students' Union (SSU), approached the administration with a request for a place to hold their daily prayers. Over winter break that request translated into a much-needed room in Todd Hall. "The interfaith service is a great first step in establishing those much needed bridges between students of different faiths," Ali Govori, president of the Muslim Student Association, said.
